How to be the Perfect Bride

How to be the Perfect Bride

Everybody at some point or another in their lives dreamt about their wedding day. The flowers, the songs, the location, the dress. It all seems like a dream until it happens.

Being a bride is probably one of the most stressful periods of a person’s life, believe me I have seen it. It can turn even the most rational person into bridezilla, through no fault of their own.

Getting your wedding dress made will add stress to the situation. So, to alleviate some of your fears we have come up with some guidelines to help you come to your consultation and fittings prepared thus taking another thing off your plate.

The first step toward the perfect dress is the initial consultation. Our designers cannot read minds (as much as they wish they could) therefore they need your help. During this hour we attempt to learn as much as we can about your style, your wedding, the venue, accessories even your hair and make-up. However, this session is not solely a deep dive into your wedding planning it is also where the designer takes measurements and mugshots. Measurements to begin drafting the pattern and the mugshots as reference photos so your dress can be built around your unique shape, for this to be as accurate as possible we ask that you please wear the correct underwear and form fitting clothing. This initial consultation helps the designer come up with a mood board and a rough sketch of the dress.

Next step is the development of the design. The mood board and sketch get uploaded to a collaborative interface. Here is where it becomes vitally important to participate! Our designers have a million ideas flowing through their head at any one time about how things will work, look and feel. If you do not like any of these ideas, please TELL US. It is our goal to bring YOUR dream into reality. During the first fitting, where a mock up may be made and changes discussed it is hugely important for you as the client to wear suitable underwear – preferably the same you intend to wear on your big day – as well as the right shoes so any additional measurements will be accurate, and any existing measurements can be adjusted.

Unfortunately our designers are only human – as much as they want you to believe they have super powers; they don’t – and because of this the design will have to be finalised, at this point there is no going back, no cold feet – call it a point of no return if you will – small adjustments may be made like the fullness of the skirt or the length of the train, however there can be no take backs of silhouettes, necklines or any major colour changes once you have said ‘I do’.

Finally, the dress can be brought to life. The next stages consist of a lot of pins, pricked fingers and empty bobbins. But throughout this process you will be fitted into the dress and alterations will be made as we work ensuring the best fit for you. Again – time allowing – any fit, or alteration you feel needs to be made please do ne be scared to ask, I promise our designers are not afraid to make adjustments as long as it gives you the joy you deserve (again time allowing).

Now the part about being the best bride. The secret is that you just have to enjoy every minute of every process. Although it may seem (read: is extremely) stressful at the time it will only happen once in your life (hopefully) so enjoy it.

P.S. Please, please, please wear the right underwear. Oh, and shoes too!
